Competition, 2016. Following an international competition Robbrecht en Daem architecten, leading a design team consisting of Robbrecht en Daem, Dierendonckblancke, VK and Arup in collaboration with Bureau Bas Smets, Muller Van Severen and Grontmij, have been selected to design the new media building for the VRT, the Flemish Radio and Television Company in Brussels, Belgium.
The project site is part of a larger masterplan organized around a new park and event square, comprising two new media buildings for both the Flemish and the Walloon broadcasting companies, housing and additional media facilities. The 55.000 m2 VRT project consists of two volumes, addressing both the new park and the urban fabric of Brussels. Central to the concept, a new vibrant and covered square connects the different parts of the public realm.
