In 2014 the leading furniture textile company Kvadrat commissions Muller Van Severen to create a furniture piece for the exhibition ‘Divina: every color is divine’ at the Salone Del Mobile in Milan. The show celebrates the thirtieth birthday of Divina, a full-cloth textile very similar to felt, produced in a myriad of colors selected by Danish painter and graphic artist Finn Sködt who created the material.
For the exhibition Muller Van Severen creates a daybed almost entirely made of the Divina cloth. On a white lacquered metal threstle, the cloth is piled up, layer upon layer, to create a matrass. Muller Van Severen uses three striking colors and implements them in an ingenious way. By rolling up blue and red cloth into a pillow, the blue becomes the sheat of the daybed while the red acts as a pillow upholstery. The matrass consists of an intriguing orange.
