A home speaks without words. Silently through things and the invisible threads spun between them. These sorts of things have a memory. This can be a story that needs to be told, or just the love that was poured into them. These things are alive and we like to call them Wild based on the book A Wild Thing, by H. Bouchez. Muller Van Severen makes these sorts of things. Not only through ‘alive’ materials and vivid forms, but infused with love and a sort of inner light. Which connects from heart to heart.We all love to wander though the homes of unknown people. The invisible threads between all the objects whisper the secrets of the owners into our soul. Through the objects interconnectedness is materialized. We feel as if we know these people, as if we linger through their most private chambers of life. With this project Muller Van Severen want to illustrate the invisible connection between the Wild Things that animate their own living room, and therefore present a replica of their private home in Belgium, with all its personal icons. A painting by the grandfather of Hannes, a sculpture made by the father of Fien, the drawings of their children and the souvenirs and precious objects they collected throughout their life. In the same way the attributes of a shaman incite a certain atmosphere in a ritual, the objects of their home define their daily rituals and enhance the essence of ‘home’ and ‘homecoming’. During Design Miami/ 2017, Airbnb transports the Ghent home of muller van severen to Miami with A Wild Thing: to celebrate our homes, the Wild Objects within them, and the relationship that can be formed between host and guest.
